Streets and Sanitation
The Commissioner of Streets and Sanitation was Alfanso “Al” Sanchez. That was before he ran away to Mexico to escape prosecution from the District U.S. Attorney.
He was one of the defendants in a case brought forth in the 7th District Federal Court by Wayne and others.
He eventually came back to Chicago to help with Daley’s last, and final, election and was apprehended. He is now serving time after being found guilty.
He and others were part of an organization call the Hispanic Democratic Organization or HDO for short. There were involved with many money making adventures, at taxpayer expense. The most notable was the Hired Truck Program which cost the taxpayers more than $40 million dollars.
