Inspector General Pulls Houdini on Community and Business people - Gets Exposed by Wayne Strnad for lying about Public Meeting
Perhaps for the first time in the history of Chicago two unions, namely Local 726 and Local 1001, were scheduled to meet together to discuss problems within Streets and Sanitation. The invited guest was none other than the Inspector General for the City of Chicago.
The day before the meeting he called to say that he was not coming because he considered the meeting a public meeting.
Wayne Strnad asks of the CPD, who is right?
As a point of information here, according to the 25th District and the Chicago Police Department, meetings that do not determine policy or deal with voting of any sort are not public meetings. Yet, the community and business people alike, are allowed to vote on things This is the way they get out of the protections of the Open Meetings Act with their CAPS program.
Question becomes, who is correct? The Inspector General or the Chicago Police Department? If it the CPD then the excuse used was not valid. If the IG is correct then the CPD is in violation of the Open Meetings Act and in fact, the 25th District is the only district to put on its agenda at the top of the page, "No recording devices" are allowed.
The meeting still took place and people discussed issues within Streets and Sanitation. A police car was stationed across the street watching the activity as were several undercover police cars. Seems they get paranoid extremely fast when people talk about their rights.
