Apparently every legislative unit that exists in the State of Illinois thinks that residents of this state have a magic money tree sitting in their yard that produces $100 dollar bills.

The Cook County Board, under the direction of Stroger, the son of the form president of the Board, has decided that they don't have enough money to play with. What they did to resolve this problem was add a tax - to the tune of more than 10% - on any purchase. Cook County is the highest tax anywhere in the entire country.

Now the State Legislature wants to get their share of this magical tree and up the tax to 50% more than what we were paying.

Did anyone at the State Legislature think of a sliding scale? Taxing the poor at a 50% increase is not the same as taxing someone making $100,000, who could actually afford such an increase.

Does anyone in the state legislature have any brains? Probably not!

Illinois Senate set to vote on another tax increase for cigarettes.

Again, government is trying to play the medical issue surrounding taxation of cigarettes. Fact is, this rationale was used when they went after the tobacco companies. It looked good in the "public eye."

However, very little of the money that was filtered to state entities actually ended up for medical care. It was used for everything under the sun including building roads, covering extended programs that the states did not account for in their budget, etc.

Next time you vote, consider who and what you are voting for.

If the candidate does not stand for accountability in government, including their own district, then simply do not vote for them.
